The 8-Proof Home
An “8-Proof” Home to Last a Lifetime
- Hurricane Proof
- Fire Proof
- Rot Proof
- Water Proof
- Termite Proof
- Flood Proof
- Tornado Proof
- Earthquake Proof
The “Proof” includes lower cost-of-ownership:
- Lower insurance costs and high LEEDS rating with
- High energy efficiency and lower utility costs.
- All architectural styles and finishes.
- Significantly shorter construction time.
- All this for typically 30% less cost than conventional wood framing.
Your “8-Proof Home” is built using galvanized steel framing with a ferrous-concrete “skin” that provides all the “Proofs” listed above. The system uses, and is based on, methods and technologies that have been in use for decades.
Top-Ten benefits of 8-Proof technology & methods vs. conventional wood framing & methods
- An 8-Proof home is basically hurricane-proof, waterproof, termite-proof, rot-proof, fireproof, flood-proof, earthquake-proof and tornado-proof. There is literally no chance of an 8-Proof home collapsing on its occupants in an earthquake, tornado, or other cataclysmic event. The insurance costs for an 8-Proof house are significantly lower than for other construction methods and materials.
- The cost of building an 8-Proof house is roughly 30% less than conventional framing and methods.
- Some of the savings are more “subtle” than others. For example, a dumpster will not be required on site until after the house is completely framed, because all of the wall sections, floor, and roof panels are delivered ready for installation–no cutting, no interpretation of the drawings required, no waste at all.
- Construction can be performed with relatively unskilled labor, due to the simplicity of the construction process. A team of four, including a reasonably skilled supervisor, can erect 140 linear of feet of wall per hour.
- The cost for plumbing and electrical rough-in is significantly reduced—instead of spending the majority of rough-in labor hours drilling holes in wood framing, the steel framing members already have openings punched out to enable the routing of electrical and plumbing lines.
- The construction schedule for an 8-Proof house is several months shorter than building with conventional framing and methods, which also affects costs (e.g., interest on construction loans, exposure/loss of materials due to weather, etc.).
- An 8-Proof house is more environmentally friendly than conventional construction, and accommodates any desired interior finishes.
- Some of the benefits, as noted above, are more “subtle” than others. For example, by using 8-Proof for the foundation/basement walls, the use of large, heavy equipment is minimized, because concrete usage is a fraction of conventional methods (i.e., no forms or concrete for the basement walls; no large loads of concrete block; etc.). The only concrete needed is for the footings and basement floor slab (and garage floor slab).
- Large loads of lumber are required for conventional methods, and require the use and disturbance of large areas of soil for storage and access. The 8-Proof system is delivered in color-coded sections, ready for immediate installation, avoiding the disturbance of ground, and the elimination of waste during framing.
- The 8-Proof methods and materials can be used for any size or architectural style of house, from simple low-income/affordable homes to large, multi-story structures. The benefits of using 8-Proof are applicable (i.e., they scale very well) for all sizes and styles of homes and small commercial structures.
- The 8-Proof system can be used for the construction of decks and exterior balconies. In addition to the benefits cited above, using 8-Proof for a deck enables a waterproof, virtually maintenance-free decking surface.
- The 8-Proof system is compliant with all appropriate/pertinent requirements and specifications of the 2006 IRC (International Residential Code).
- An 8-Proof wall is a 2-hour fire-rated wall, when the proprietary ferrous-concrete mix is applied to only one side of the wall.
- An 8-Proof house has a high LEEDS rating, since it eliminates air infiltration through the exterior walls.
- The 8-Proof system is based on materials, methods, and technologies that are well-known, sound, and field-proven over many decades of use.
